New release: Overweight and Obesity

More than half (54%) of Australian adults are either overweight or obese, according to new analysis from the 2004-05 National Health Survey released today by the ABS.

Using body mass index (BMI) from the ABS National Health Surveys (1989, 1995, 2001 and 2004-05), overweight and obesity trends over time, risk factors and coexisting chronic diseases are examined in this publication. Also included are recent health related actions taken by overweight and obese people.

See Overweight and Obesity in Adults, Australia, 2004-05 (cat. no. 4719.0) for further information.
