Community Preparedness for Emergencies

Are Australian households prepared for emergencies such as bushfire, flood, cyclone, or other hazardous events?
Data has been released from the Western Australia Community Preparedness for Emergencies survey, which was conducted in October 2007 (cat. no. 4818.5).

This publication provides a range of information, including:

  • transportation needs during evacuation
  • whether anyone in the household would need help getting out of the dwelling in an emergency
  • availability of stored drinking water and emergency food stores
  • whether a household has a working torch
  • unwillingness to evacuate

Another new publication 'Household Preparedness for Emergencies: New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, and Australian Capital Territory' (cat. no. 4818.0.55.001) is currently due to be released 8 June 2008.
Previously the ABS has released Community Preparedness for Emergencies, NSW, Oct 2003 (cat. no. 4818.1)
