How much do Australian households spend on health?

A snapshot of household expenditure on health 2004-05 was released today (cat. no. 4836.0.55.001).

It provides data relating to a range of areas, including:
  • average weekly expenditure on medical care and health expenses
  • expenditure on dental treatments
  • expenditure on accident and health insurance

It should be noted that this article is based mainly on data from the 2003–04 Household Expenditure Survey (HES) and the 2004–05 National Health Survey (NHS). Data are presented on a household, rather than an individual basis.
